GREETINGS FROM OUR INCOMING
MICHAEL E ESTEP
Since it was announced that Bishop Steiner Ball intended to appoint me as the superintendent of the Potomac Highlands District many, many people have said to me “Mike, you are going to love it there.” These words came from people who would know, people who had been in the district at one time or live there now. Most often the reason given for this affirmation was that I would find great people; kind, open-hearted people from churches who long to do ministry in Christ’s name. Admittedly, I’ve been anxious about this call. But, hearing over and over again that I should look forward to living in and serving with the Potomac Highlands District has been reassuring.
I bring with me my wife, Sarah, and our three children; Abbey, Jacob, and Samuel. Sarah is leaving a job as payroll supervisor with the Greenbrier County Board of Education to allow me to accept this call. Abbey is a freshman at WVU, studying graphic design, very involved in Young Life and the anti-slavery International Justice Movement. Jacob will be entering 9th grade, is a musician (tuba and cello) and a good artist. Sam, a rising 8th grader, has a passion for basketball and football. For the past 13 years we have been the parsonage family in Ronceverte, WV, where I have served the Trinity and Elizabeth Chapel churches.
I am grateful to be entering a district that has been ably and fruitfully led by Dallas Forren. I am thankful the pastoral and lay leadership of the Potomac Highlands has built strong ministries to the young, ministries to equip leaders, and ministries to reach out in mission to the world. I will benefit from your strength and hope to share my own.
I love doing hands-on ministry. Also, when I am a part of a committee or board that joyfully plans ministry I get excited. People say I’m a good listener and a not-so-bad preacher. I am amazed by the love of God in Christ. And, when churches, charges, parishes, districts and conferences do what they do in the power and grace of the Holy Spirit I am in awe. I’m looking forward to being in awe of God with you.
Grace and peace,
THE ESTEP FAMILY
